A Computer Build

I've been interested in computers in some fashion for as long as I can remember. When I was younger the only thing I was allowed to do was play a few DOS games. Times changed, but I have still never built my own computer completely from scratch (obviously I'm not fabricating any of the parts...).

Cassandra's computer died and that brought along several frustrations for her. With that I set out to find a way to take away those irriatants. A focus for the computer became obvious: Multitasking. I also knew I needed to do this as cheaply as I could considering I don't have a whole lot of money.

Insomina strikes back!

It is apparently 12:25 on my "normal" time, but since I am traveling it is only 11:25. Obviously I can't sleep, so I am camped out in the bathroom (so that I don't wake Cassandra up with the light) and I'm hoping that by writing some I can become sleepy enough to... sleep.

CAPTCHA and Why They Are Here

Let me be the first to say that I wish using CAPTCHAs weren't something that needed to be done. However, they are needed at this point. As it was there were about 2-3 new spam accounts (which I am still slowly cleaning out) created every 7 hours or so. So now real people are going to be annoyed by being required to use a CAPTCHA to do certain things on the site. For this I am truly sorry, but the only other option was to require an administrator (that being me...) to approve all new user requests. I can be busy for days or weeks at a time though, so it would not be timely to do that.

An Operating System Journey

A few years ago I, as everyone in my family, had only used Microsoft operating systems. Anything else was completely foreign to me. I managed to acquire a brand new Powerbook G4, one of the very last ones, as soon after I got it the move to Intel was pushed forward and the first Macbooks were released. Hardware aside, I was exposed to something new and after struggling at first to adapt, I was becoming used to doing things in a different way. A little less than a year later I decided to try Ubuntu on the aging eMachines desktop that my Powerbook had replaced for me.

First Post!!

So obviously SilencedPoets.com is undergoing a change.. (Sorry if the title is too geeky for anyone, by the way) Since this is a giant process of moving everything around it is going to take me a while to get things all settled in but once it is finished then hopefully this will be better for everyone.
